November 10, 2020

Dear First Baptist Family,

Enclosed you will find a copy of the proposed 2021 budget (see above). Our Stewardship Committee, staff, and church leaders have reviewed budget requests and prepared this proposal for your consideration. The pandemic invites us to be creative and flexible in our ministry practice. We are confident in God’s provision and expectantly hopeful as God invites us to see what love can do in 2021.

The proposed budget goal for 2021 is $1,320,111, a 2% decrease of our 2020 budget. Although we are behind on meeting our 2020 budget goal, our 2020 expenses have not outpaced our receipts. You will notice an increase in budget for Bank Charges & Business Fees (1-570062) in the proposed 2021 budget. This reflects the increase in online giving during the pandemic, a testament to our congregation’s faithful giving which allows us to offer meaningful ministry in Jefferson City and among our global partners. We believe the proposed budget will allow us to be financially healthy in 2021, at the same time inspiring us to meet our ministry goals.

Enclosed in this packet are the proposed 2021 budget, a 2021 commitment card, and an update letter from our Lead Pastor, Doyle Sager. Please review the enclosed packet and plan to join us for these upcoming opportunities:

  • November 22 Commitment Sunday – 8:15 a.m. & 10:45 a.m. in person or online at 8:15 a.m. and on demand after.
  • November 22 Budget Hearing – 12 p.m., FBC sanctuary.
  • December 13 Special Called Business Meeting – 12 p.m., FBC Sanctuary.

On Commitment Sunday, you may bring your completed 2021 commitment card with you to in-person worship. (Download a printable copy here.) You may also mail your card or bring it to the church office anytime Monday-Thursday 8 a.m.-5.p.m. Pledges for the 2021 budget year may also be emailed to accounting@fbcjc.org. Now is a good time for all of us to pause and reflect, asking God how we are invited to love, serve, and give in 2021.

Four items related to 2021 finances will be presented by the Stewardship Committee for a vote on Sunday, December 13th at the special called business meeting:

  • A motion to grant a one-year extension through August 31, 2022 for FBC to review how it wishes to address the $75,000 commitment to The Baptist Home which was previously approved by the Church on August 31, 2016.
  • 2021 Proposed Budget (see enclosed sheet)
  • 2021 Ministerial Housing Allowance
  • 2021 Familia Cristiana Internacional Proposed Budget

At our November 22 and December 13 business meetings, we will use our COVID-19 safety protocols including masking, ushers escorting attendees in and out of the meeting, and physical distancing. Those attending the business meetings may register ahead of time online fbcjc.org/register or may register when you arrive. Registration for the November 22 business meeting will open on November 16.

Sincerely,

Matt Barton, Chairperson of the Stewardship Committee
