MISSION JC ANNOUNCEMENT
In 2013, we took a bold risk by spending a Sunday worshiping through service rather than gathering for a Sunday service. We called it MISSION JC. Little did we know what God would do with this event, as God invited other churches and neighbors to join us. Over the past 12 years, a sea of red shirts from more than 11 congregations filled the community as neighbor cared for neighbor.
We celebrate the life-giving community service and relationships that occurred since 2013 because of the dedication
and hard work of countless leaders and volunteers. Good things happened for the glory of God and the good of the world.
And even good things have a season.
MISSION JC doesn’t just happen. It takes hours of hard work from volunteers and community leaders. For the past few years, we’ve noticed a change in participation from other congregations, and some have begun their own days of service in the community. We celebrate that. And ServeJeffCity continues to thrive each April in their work with many organizations that often overlap with ours. Again, we celebrate that!
We recognize that MISSION JC has served its season. So, we are retiring the event and making room for new things God might do that continue to demonstrate our core value of service and helping others.
One of the ten Life-Giving Practices we will introduce this fall is “We Help Where We Can.” This has been a long-held value of our church and continues. We believe love becomes real when we notice the need before us and respond with compassion, even when it costs us. As always, we will continue to be a congregation that serves locally, nationally, and globally.
The Missions Leadership Team is looking ahead to Fall 2027 for a new day of serving together for our church family. While it won’t be called MISSION JC and it won’t involve other congregations, we will continue the heartbeat of MISSION JC: worshipping through service and helping where we can as a community of faith.
To all who have given hours to MISSION JC over the years, we say THANK YOU! You planted many seeds. You demonstrated what Love can do. You worked together for the glory of God and the good of the world.
