Thank you Piecemakers!

Piecemakers Ministry meets on the second and fourth Thursday of each month January through November in Room 101 from 10am to 2pm and create pillows, receiving blankets, quilts (baby, children and twin sizes), anti-pill fleece lap quilts for people in wheelchairs, walker caddys and other items as needs arise. They set up a display in the foyer and hallway around the auditorium on the weekend before Thanksgiving. Then, on the second Thursday of December, their last meeting of the year, they sort items they will donate to different organizations and share a potluck meal with the office and maintenance staff that help them through the year as well as Paul Winn, who does the quilting on his computerized long arm quilting machine in his home.

In 2022, a variety of items were created: 28 pillows, 22 baby quilts, 19 children quilts, 2 hand sewn dolls, 17 fleece lap quilts, 2 large quilts, 22 twin size quilts, 13 receiving blankets and 23 walker caddys. These items were donated to Baptist Children’s Home, Pregnancy Help Center, Halo for Girls, Building Community Bridges, Miracles for Margaret, Central Missouri Foster Care Association and to homebound FBCJC members at The Timbers in Holts Summit, Heisinger Bluffs in Jefferson City, Oak Tree Villas in Jefferson City, Primrose in Jefferson City, and Villa Marie in Jefferson City. They also donated a special quilt and pillow with CCHS school colors for the Youth Ministry to auction and a Bible verse quilt to Melissa for all of her support of this ministry.  In past years, they have made quilts for Kenya, eyeglass covers, fidget board/lap quilts for dementia patients in local hospital and nursing homes, and soft books for Pregnancy Help Center and Baptist Children’s Home.

Piecemakers is open to beginning quilters and experienced quilters. New members are welcome any time. Membership to FBCJC is not a requirement to join Piecemakers. They do hand-quilting and machine quilting. They have some sewing machines on hand.  They are grateful for people who donate fabric that helps keep this ministry going. This year their budget will include paying Paul Winn for the quilting he does for the ministry (previously paid from a different budget) in addition to quilt batting, sewing supplies and fabric as needed.
